Moron Penn

Ok -- so this is not about Obama directly -- but about one of his lackeys.  Sean Penn. Lately he has been all over the British press (some U.S. coverage too, but nobody here really gives a damn about the Falkland Islands). He thinks that Britain should give the Falklands "back" to Argentina.

First things first -- how about Argentina give back their land on the continent to the natives that they slaughtered indiscriminately? Surely there are some poor wights left on Tierra Del Fuego that would like a nice penthouse in Buenos Aires.

Second Argentina's "undisputed" claim to the Islands is tenuous to say the least: it goes back to pre-1832 when the Brits last claimed it as theirs (and successfully reclaimed it after Argentina's sneak attack in 1982). The Dutch first sighted the Islands in the 1600's. The English named parts of it and made the first landing in 1690. The French landed and settled (left some poor swine) in 1764. The English made another settlement in 1765 in another part of the Islands (unknown to each other). The Spanish "acquired" the French claim in 1767 and put it under their colonial governorship in B.A.  In 1770, the Spanish attacked and expelled the British (note who attacked who first) and the ensuing peace treaty permitted the Brits to go back to their settlement. The Brits had to leave to fight the Americans, leaving a plaque asserting their claim. Then the Spanish left, leaving a plaque asserting their claim. The United Provinces of Rio Plate (later to become Argentina) withdrew the remaining settlers in 1811.   In 1820 another PRP captain raised a flag claiming the Islands for PRP.  The PRP governor establish another settlement in 1828  after seeking permission from the Brits and Spanish.  About 1831, the Americans raided the place destroying the military goods available.  Then in 1832 Argentina tried to found a penal colony there (yuck) but a mutiny resulted in the death of the commander and failure of the enterprise. in 1832 the Brits arrived to stay -- the Argentines complied with a request to leave. In 1834 it became a naval station and in 1840 a formal British colony.

By contrast, Mexico owned California. From 1769 to 182, Spain owned California (ignoring legitimate Indian claims) and from 1821 to 1848, the place was Mexican. No counterclaims. None.

So that is why Sean Penn should give his Malibu mansion back to the Mexicans.
